Aspects of Garden Statues in Archaic Greece

Aspects Garden Statues Archaic Greece 22675673.jpg Aspects of Garden Statues in Archaic Greece The initial freestanding sculpture was developed by the Archaic Greeks, a notable achievement since until then the sole carvings in existence were reliefs cut into walls and pillars. Younger, ideal male or female (kore) Greeks were the subject matter of most of the sculptures, or kouros figures. The kouroi were seen by the Greeks to typify beauty and were sculpted with one foot leading and an uncompromising rigidity to their forward-facing poses; the male statues were always strapping, sinewy, and unclothed. Life-sized versions of the kouroi appeared beginning in 650 BC. The Archaic period was an incredible point of transformation for the Greeks as they grew into new forms of government, formed unique expressions of art, and attained knowledge of the people and cultures outside of Greece. However, the Greek civilization was not slowed down by these challenges.

Leonardo da Vinci, a Renaissance artist, was celebrated as an inspired genius, inventor and scientific expert. The forces of nature led him to analyze the properties and motion of water, and due to his fascination, he carefully documented his ideas in his now renowned notebooks. Brilliant water displays packed with symbolic significance and natural grace converted private villa settings when early Italian water fountain designers paired imagination with hydraulic and landscaping abilities. The brilliance in Tivoli were provided by the humanist Pirro Ligorio, who was widely known for his capabilities in archeology, architecture and garden design. Well versed in humanist subjects as well as ancient technical readings, some other water fountain makers were masterminding the phenomenal water marbles, water attributes and water pranks for the countless estates near Florence.
